I'll refrain from any absurd attempts to speculate on the significance of the first American Pope. Except I won't, really, because Pope Leo XIV is kinda a slap in the face to the American fascist movement and it's really hard to not read it that way.
There's a lot of folks who could have been named Pope (and The Criminal was at no point among them.) But they picked this guy.
The new Pope didn't tweet once in 2024. In 2025, he's posted 5 times, in which he: - Criticized JD Vance's views on Catholicism and Jesus - Posted an article opposing Trump's immigration policies - Retweeted twice about the Pope's health - Retweeted a criticism of Trump & Bukele's laughter at KAG.

That means JD Vance, who apparently converted to Catholicism for the decor, now has the distinction of having been slapped down by two different popes. It's an accomplishment!

The new Pope has expressed the need for urgent action on climate change and specifically pointed out the cruelty displayed between Trump and El Salvadoran dictator Bukele.
I was one of the people who took it a little hard when JD Vance killed the last pope just by looking at him. Maybe this was the Catholic Church's way of getting revenge against Vance: Oh, you didn't like the old guy? Then how about you come on down for big ol' plate of this?
“A new woke pope.”

Well, that's it then. I give it a week before these clowns announce that Actually, Donald Trump is the new Pope and American Catholics who don't agree will be deported.
