It's been a truly historic midterm night, with some pundits comparing the Republican Party collapse to the 1974 rout voters handed to them after the Watergate scandal. That's an apt comparison: Republican corruption in these last two Trump years has made Watergate look almost quaint in comparison.
It's the most corrupt House, Senate, and administration in United States history, and tonight it looks like voters are truly intent on making Republicans pay for it.
Live-blogging continues below.
Here's the good news we've been waiting for: Maine's Sen. Susan Collins has finally been sent packing.

Democrat Troy Jackson will become Maine's newest senator.
Another Democratic trifecta:
JUST IN: Democrats have won control of the state government of Pennsylvania. For the first time since the 1990s. They have flipped the state Senate, kept the state House, and kept the governorship.

Talarico: "We just took back Texas. We just sent a message to every billionaire megadonor, every trillionaire megadonor. ... In this state, power belongs to the people."

Ask yourself if you think Republicans, in their panic, are telling themselves they should’ve managed the marginal price of things a bit better, or if they recognize people don’t like raging, lying, crooks—the way of politics they rewired their entire party to practice.

With over 95% of the vote in, Mississippi's Senate race between Democrat Scott Colom and Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith is a dead heat.
With 97% of the vote in, Democrat Scott Colom leads the Missisisppi US Senate race by just *28 VOTES.* Y'ALL. Live results here: www.mississippifreepress.org/live-2026-u-...

three weeks ago the Cook Politico Report declared 234 seats the top possible outcome for Democrats. NYT currently projects 256. bsky.app/profile/cook...

Longtime haters will recognize North Carolina's Rep. Virginia Foxx as a gold-tier crank. Perhaps not for much longer: Foxx is losing reelection as of right now, but the race will definitely be headed to a recount.
I realize he is obligated to talk like this but ... no, this is not at all the clear message being sent tonight.
Tonight, the American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face.

The "clear message" of this tsunami election is that the American people want Trump's party of enablers to sit down, shut up, and think about what they've done. But it is uniting the country. Gotta admit that part.
We're looking at 600-700 state legislative seats flipping Dem. This is a generational shift. This will define the next era.

In Ohio, the odious Rep. Max Miller goes down. Democrat Brian Poindexter defeats Miller by a healthy margin; Miller is the former Trump aide and toxic MAGAbro who was accused of violence against his now-ex-wife and toddler daughter and who appeared to threaten his ex-wife's father: sitting Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno. Yet another case of voters deciding that no, actually, being a violent freak matters.
look man you were president and i'm just some schlub but i think it means normal people want cheaper gas and the dem base wants to drink the blood of their enemies

We've been waiting for a call in the Michigan senate race, where Democrat Abdul El-Sayed has a 5-point lead over Republican Mike Rogers with 80% of votes counted. While a few sites have called the race for El-Sayed, the Associated Press and networks haven't. El-Sayed has given a victory speech—but we may not get an official AP call tonight.
El-Sayed: Mike, enjoy retirement. You chose hate. Michigan chose hope. May we never have to see the likes of you in this state again

The AP has called the Louisiana Senate race for Republican Julia Letlow. This one was a squeaker, with Democrat Jamie Davis holding Letlow to a 50.9%-49.1% victory ... in Louisiana.
Incumbent Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts has also held off a challenge from independent Dan Osborn. This one was a longshot, but stranger things have been happening tonight.
What has happened: —Dems flip the U.S. Senate, by a lot —Dems flip the U.S. House, by a lot —AZ, PA, WI, MN, MI have new Dem trifectas. —Stun Dem sweep of statewide offices in GA, TX —Dems flip governorships in GA, IA, OH, TX, break GOP trifectas —GOP trifecta also broken in NH because legislature.

And in Tennessee, the horrid Rep. Scott DesJarlais is in real danger of losing. With 99% of the vote in, he trails Democrat Victoria Broderick by ... 280 votes?
Maybe the wildest one yet. Trump +24 seat. Projection is a tie. This guy pressured his mistress to get an abortion after voting repeatedly to ban it.

It's been a particularly bad night for the nation's more infamous Republicans, leading credence to the theory that maybe Americans have tired of the Trump era experiment in electing known dirtbags. Maybe, anyway!
