Democrats win control of both House and Senate as blue wave rolls across America

In an overwhelming repudiation of Donald Trump and the Republican Congress that has blindly followed him for the last two years, Americans booted GOP members from the House and Senate in blue wave that exceeded all expectations.

While there was suspicion that polls showing Democrats with leads in multiple states were being too generous, the opposite turned out to be true. Democrats easily over performed the polls, winning race after race in states that weren't even thought to be competitive a month ago.

As of 11 PM EST, Democrats have taken control of both the House and Senate. The wave got off to an early start when Annie Andrews defied the polls to defeat the unqualified Darlene Graham in South Carolina. Roy Cooper won handily in North Carolina, giving Democrats two flips before the night even left the coast.

Jon Ossoff, once regarded as the most vulnerable Democratic Senator, held his seat easily in Georgia โ€” with Keisha Long Bottoms joining him in victory as the state's new governor.

As the polls moved west, so did the blue wave. Sherrod Brown recaptured his old seat in Ohio. Adam Hamilton beat Sen. Roger Marshall easily. Josh Turek beat Ashley Hinton in Iowa, in a race that pundits had thought to be leaning red.

Texas might have been the biggest surprise of the night, not because James Talarico won, but because he steamrolled Ken Paxton in an easy double digit victory. As he did so, Democrats scored wins all over the Lone Star State, with Gina Hinojosa routing incumbent governor Greg Abbott.

Texas didn't just turn blue, it went cobalt.

As of 11 PM, Abdul El-Sayed held a narrow 1% lead in Michigan over Mike Rogers. In Maine, Troy Jackson led Susan Collins by over 3% with two thirds of the vote in, but no major outlet had yet called the race.

Amazingly, Mississippi also remains uncalled, with Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith holding a narrow edge over Democrat Scott Colom.

Polls in Alaska, where Democrat Mary Peltola is facing off with incumbent Republican Dan Sullivan, have still not closed.
